Dear Cathy, I wrote to you a few years ago regarding my daughter who seemed very troubled and rebellious. Sadly, we discovered the cause of her behaviour was that her older brother had been sexually abusing her. As a parent I felt bad, that I had let her down. He is now in prison. I haven’t seen him. I can’t face him. It’s been a difficult time, but things have improved for my daughter. The counselling you recommended was fantastic as she was able to explain everything.

CG: I was pleased that H’s daughter was able to disclose the abuse which had been going for a number of years, but my heart went out to the family who have been through so much. Sadly, the majority of sexual abuse takes place within the family.
