I knew from the start Oskar, age 6, had secrets. He was brought into foster care when his mother left him with ‘friends’ while she went abroad. He was arriving in school hungry, unwashed, and with bruises on his arms and legs. I did all I could to help him settle into my home, but as the weeks passed my concerns grew. He remained quiet and withdrawn and scared of something or someone, but wouldn’t tell me what.
One day we saw a black car with two men inside he recognized parked outside his school and he was petrified. After a lot of persuading and reassuring he was finally able to tell me what had happened in the house he once called home, and the police were immediately called. This is his story.
