Teresa May on grammar schools.
I was appalled to hear our new prime minister Theresa May announce she was seeking to reintroduce the two tier system of grammar and secondary schools. A good education should be available to all. I was impressed when she took over from David Cameron after Brexit but not any longer. She has just lost the Conservative party my vote.

Unaccompanied minors
Unaccompanied minors have been arriving in this country for as long as I have been fostering. If they don’t have family here who can look after them then they are looked after in the care system often going to foster carers. Of course we must help them but there is already a shortage of foster carers so I have concerns who will look after these highly traumatized young people. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36200366

The Night The Angels Came
This morning I opened an email from a reader who asked if I still had the text message from Patrick about the stars. Yes, I do. Child pornography
Last night Channel 4 programme 24 hours in police custody. Two professional men, a teacher and a doctor, arrested and questioned about downloading child pornography from the internet. Shocking, obviously, but it made the important point that these images are NOT actors but real children who have been filmed while being abused. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/24-hours-in-police-custody

Slaughter on Tunisian beach.
It is now known that at least 30 Britons died in the shooting on the Tunisian beach, including 3 generations from one family. It was a mindless attack on innocent people who were simply on holiday. Thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of the bereaved. So very sad.

Bible study group massacre
As more is known of the shocking massacre of 9 members of a bible study group in South Carolina it begs the questions how did a 21 year old become so warped and full of hatred? And how was he able to obtain a gun so easily? The emotional words of forgiveness from the grieving relatives are a testament to their faith and a lesson to us all. You are in our thoughts.

Best Mother’s Day present.
My son was at the supermarket checkout yesterday and the boy in front had a bag of coins, clearly the contents of his money box, to pay for a bunch of flowers for Mothers Day. After counting out all his money the lad was £2.50 short so without hesitation Adrian gave him the money he needed. Adrian didn’t tell me this, a friend who’d seen it did. It’s the best mother’s day present ever for me. If your are celebrating Mothers Day today have a good one. Cathy xxx

Home for Christmas
Just come from a meeting and the little boy I have been looking after will be returning home for Christmas. Great news.
Decorations
We all had great fun at the weekend putting up the Christmas decorations.
‘Black Friday’
Glad I wasn’t out shopping yesterday. Whatever was all that about? If yesterday was Black Friday for shopping then today must be Silly Saturday.
Thanksgiving USA
Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends in America. Enjoy your celebrations. Cathy xx
Zeena’s plight.
Just heard that The Child Bride is in the Top Twenty for another week, making 8 weeks in total, which is fantastic. But even more importantly, in the last couple of days I’ve had another three girls contact me saying they identified with Zeena’s plight and have found the courage to seek help. Well done.
Ho ho ho
Going to make a start on Christmas shopping today. Everyone I speak to seems to have started theirs. Love Christmas but it’s just the thought of all that shopping…
Chart position
I’ve just heard that The Child Bride is in the UK top ten paperback bestseller charts for another week, that’s seven weeks in total. My literary agent, Andrew said: “It’s a terrific achievement to stay in so long and so high.” But of course the real achievement is that Zeena’s story is reaching other girls in a similar position and giving them the courage to speak out and seek help. Thank you. I couldn’t have done it without you all reading the books. Cathy xx
What do you think?
I need your help. My publishers and I are having a (heated) discussion about the subtitle for my next book, Saving Danny. Examples of subtitles from my previous books are “A young Asian girl. A hidden culture. A devastating truth.” (From The Child Bride) and ‘The true story of a frightened young girl who is desperate to go home.’ (From I Miss Mummy.).
So the question is this: is it better to have a few words similar to the above which tell you a bit about the book, or is it better to have a quote from the book, e.g. “Why does no one love me?”
I would really like to hear your views, thank you.
Happy?
Feeling low on this dismal grey Monday morning? I might have just the answer: http://cathyglass.co.uk/happy_adults.html
Halloween
Many of us with children celebrated Halloween last night, but do we know why? One boy who came to our little party had done some research. This is what he told us: The word Halloween is a shortening of All Hallows’, and has its origins in an ancient Celtic festival which celebrated the end of the harvest. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and dead overlapped, and the dead could come back and cause sickness or damage crops. Masks and costumes were worn to drive off the evil spirits. Interesting.
Good day.
I’ve had a good day. The weather has been fantastic and The Child Bride remains at the top of the UK best settler lists for another week (no. 4). Also I’ve just finished writing my next book, Saving Danny, which will be out in March. I hope you’ve had a good day too. Cathy x
Sunny Monday
Bright sunny morning here in the UK as I write the final chapter of my next book. Sunny all round. Enjoy your day.
Dr Internet
Not sure whether to laugh or cry. I telephoned my doctor’s surgery yesterday evening to ask about a medical condition the child I’m fostering is suffering from. The doctor said he didn’t know the answer and suggested I google it.
Lynda Bellingham
Very saddened to hear Lynda Bellingham has died. Fantastic lady and great television personality. I know she will be missed by many of us. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-29685903
Audio version
A reminder from my publishers that an excerpt from the Audible version of The Child Bride can be heard at: http://smarturl.it/ChildBrideclip
The Child Bride
The Child Bride paperback is doing very well and remains at the top of the UK best settler lists for another week (no. 3). I am so pleased that Zeena’s story has reached so many. Since publication I’ve received a number of emails from young people in a similar position and I am trying to get them the help they need.
USA Walmart
Just heard from my publishers that Damaged and Will You Love Me? are available in Walmart. I hope more titles will follow soon.
Thanksgiving Canada
To my friends in Canada, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Bestseller Charts
When a book is published if the author is lucky it goes into the bestseller charts. I like to share the news with my readers as soon as possible. So I am very pleased to say that for the second week running The Child Bride is number 2 in the UK paperback bestseller charts. Thank you for all the kind comments, emails, tweets, and facebook posts. They are much appreciated. Have a good evening. xx
Update on 14 year old.
After a massive response on facebook the girl has emailed me and is in touch with someone who can help her. She said how moved she was by the many kind comments posted on my facebook page and that it meant a lot to her. It meant a lot to me too so a very big thank you. Xx
To the scared 14 year old girl
If you are the scared fourteen year old girl who contacted me around 3.30 pm today on Facebook, having read The Child Bride, and then deleted her account please seek help: either from the police or one of the agencies listed at the back of my book. There is help available.
Sold Out!
I understand that some supermarkets and books shops have sold out of The Child Bride. They are restocking very quickly. Fantastic that Zeena’s story is reaching so many, but not good if you had a wasted trip. Just a reminder all my books are available online, links on the Books page of this website.
