ANOTHER FORGOTTEN CHILD
Aimee is now 14 and lives happily with Jason, Jenny, Emily (9), and Simon (6) who was the baby Jenny was expecting at the end of the book. We are still in contact and try to meet up at least once a year. Aimee continues to do well at school and is expected to gain six GCSE passes when she takes the examinations the year after next.
Aimee still sees her birth mother at supervised contact but only once a year. Jason also met his mother again when he took Aimee to contact, but Jenny went with him this time and it wasn’t as traumatic for him.
Aimee was in therapy for over two years, during which time she talked about some of her suffering and of those who were responsible. As a result of what she said one of her abusers is serving a prison sentence. Hopefully the others will too eventually.
Aimee had a dreadful start in life and she has done remarkably well. Many children who suffer as she did would be scarred for life. It is a testament to Aimee’s strength of character and Jenny and Jason’s wonderful care of her that she is able to live a happy and fulfilling life.
Well done all of you. Love Cathy x
We saw Aimee and her family last year but not this. Everyone is so busy. However, I’ve just opened a Christmas card from them; enclosing a family photograph and a letter from Jenny. How the children have grown! Aimee is 16 now and dressed very fashionably. She is wearing her hair short which suits her. Jenny wrote that they are all well and Aimee passed the GCSE examinations she needed and is now studying child care in the sixth form. She says she wants to be a foster carer when she’s older and help children like her. If she does I am sure she will be great.
